The wilderness within is only a dance away
No matter where we come from, the vast majority of our ancestors were hunter-gatherers: were wild. The sky was their ceiling, they lived amongst the mystery and perfection of wild nature, and they knew that as home.
We have been modern humans for only a tiny part of our history, and instinctively yearn for that wildness, like a tiger born in captivity might yearn for the forest without ever having seen it.
There is a way of being human that few of us get to experience, where we know peace and flow as baseline, and we are in profound connection with our natural environment. Where we have a deep sense of purpose and belonging, and above all a powerful internal authority, guided by receptivity and intuition, that allows us to feel at home wherever we are.
Wildness is a movement into truth and away from dogma, gurus, and being ‘good’. To be in our wild hearts we must know ourselves, know how to move through our stuck places, have tools to process and express the many voices of being human.
Inside each and every person is a guiding principle, a wild instinctive voice which knows who and what we truly are and why we are here. This voice has the ability to make decisions that can lead us toward a healthy, nourishing life. If we listen. If we let it. If we trust ourselves.
Our world has become mystifying in its disconnection. It takes commitment to carve out a space to be able to listen, and remember who we are away from the division, discord and overwhelm our pocket sadness-machines deliver to us daily. This retreat is an invitation to remember on older way of being, and in the prcoess gather tools to take back into our lives. Tools of connection, feeding our vitality, our instinctive voice, our ability to navigate a rapidly changing world.
Rewild 5Rhythms is open to all genders, creeds, countries of origin and levels of experience. It is about finding our shared humanity, and allowing the wisdom of our clever, creative hands and hearts to meet our dancing feet and hips, cradled in the endless song of Big Mama Gaia. We do ask that you bring a willingness to dance into your own stuckness and take responsibility for whatever is in your body to feel. We'll give you the tools, and the support, but it's up to you to use them.
LOGISTICS
WHAT IS THE REWILD 5RHYTHMS RETREAT?
It's a mixed gender 5rhythms dance and rewilding retreat in a simple yet lovely residential retreat space near Hobart, located on a pristine waterway, on a private estuary. We'll have the place to ourselves.
We will be welcomed to lutruwita by a Palawa elder (and hopefully will have a chance to sit around with them to have a yarn afterwards).
For those of us of non-Aboriginal descent, this retreat is within a framework of deep listening to Country, respect for all beings within it, and a willingness to bring periods of deep silence to our time on country. It is also held with deepest respect for the wisdom of Australia's first inhabitants and custodians, and the invitation to listen, really listen, to the knowledge, lore, law and Culture that may be imparted to us, from the generosity of spirit of any mob who may be with us.
Accomodation is in shared rooms of 3-5 beds, with a few swag places (you can rent the swags here). You will share with the same gender. There are no solo rooms. All the beds are the same price. Every room has a toilet and shower.
There are 7-10 swag places, and swags can be rented from me. Swag places have access to all facilities. Swags need to be set up close enough to the main house to hear the food calls.
The centre is lovely, with a big communal space, and lots of gorgeous coastal nature to relax into, and pristine beaches to walk along. The water will be bloody cold, btw, because, Tasmania.
Our food will be nothing short of spectacular, with talented and heartful Emily Bell dreaming up an incredible menu with as much local and organic produce as possible, to complement our journey. There will be omnivore, vegetarian and vegan options.
FLIGHTS.
Please book your flights to arrive at Hobart between 11am-4pm on the 18th April, and out of Hobart after 130pm on the 22nd April

REWILDING AND 5RHYTHMS, a beautiful combination
This retreat draws from earth connection practices that are common to all humans, from our shared hunter gatherer ancestry. Rewilding is an inner and outer process, with skills, technologies and ceremonies to awaken the wisdom of connection we all have. There will be periods of doing and making, and also periods of silence, stillness, sit spot meditation and deep receptivity to allow Country to whisper her wisdom to us.
Following the 5Rhythms dance meditation map, which comes from Gabrielle Roth, and weaving it together with earth connection practices designed to connect us with the land around, above and below us, and the wisdom in our hunter-gatherer DNA, we will be making things with our hands, learning how to walk withour ripples, learn the language of birds, see with owl eyes and feel the hidden language nestling in every tree, rock, cloud and drop of water.
We will be moving for 6 hours a day (at your own pace!), and exploring rewilding practices and ceremonies of connection. We take what we discover, and turn our insight inwards, to unearth in ourselves the instinctive wisdom that guides every living thing. We release external authority and begin to hear our own wild, wise voice.
Gabrielle Roth's brilliant 5Rhythms practice gives us the daily tools to find the speedhumps and barriers that hold us away from a connected life.
Making things with our hands, listening to the stone and earth of ourselves, calling fire to awaken our creative brilliance, being melted by water to dissolve that which no longer serves, reading landscapes, we begin to touch who we are away from social media and endless screen time.
If you are called to this retreat, please know that some part of you is calling you to lean into your discomfort, in order to grow. Transformation isn't comfortable. You will map your edges: physically, emotionally and mentally. When we finally let go, and dance through to the other side of our human limitations, we can open doors to deeper perception, insight, connection. Humans have been accessing this wisdom through movement for as long as we have been dancing around fires, with the stars raining down. The invitation is to connect on all levels, and to find our place in our own lives, and with nature, and whatever is greater than us: whatever that looks like for you. There is no dogma here.
You are the driver. Your autonomy and rhythm is paramount. We all run into our tenderness in the process of letting go the stories, judgements and projections that keep us small. The 5rhythms practice provides our map to move through whatever may be stirring. And, you will be supported by our beautiful, experienced team.

WHAT IS 5RHYTHMS MOVEMENT MEDITATION?
The 5Rhythms® Waves map is a stunning tool for exploration of what it is that makes us human, on our way to our divinity. It is the place to find and actively release our judgements about self and other, to explore the stories that we have carried since (and before) birth, to connect with our own perfect dance. Each of us is unique. Like snowflakes, we are shaped by our journeys in these bodies, and just as no two humans have the same journey, so no two humans can have the same dance. When we let fall comparisons and touch the parts of ourselves that wish to express, we transform our suffering into art, and discover something amazing...
...Bodies want to move, and they know exactly what to do if we get out of the way. Psyches yearn to be whole, and will show us the places where we need to pay attention. The human organism moves toward unity and oneness like an air bubble moves to the surface or a flower turns to the light. Humans are a combination lock, and only you can discover your combination, by flowing into listening, by moving what is true, by letting go that which is ready to fall, by giving your soul wings, and by breathing into the space that is what you truly are, so that your essence reveals itself in every shape your body makes, and freedom is a felt sense, a known force, a homecoming. We are so that we are.
There will be at least 2-3 5rhythms® movement sessions each day, so we get to embody these tools, rather than just talking about them. Your pace is yours, though, even if your dance is lying down, just wiggling your fingers and toes.
You don't need any experience, just a willingness to look inside and move what is true, in the company of a gorgeous tribe of fellow dancers and rewilders, all committed to growth, connection, and remembering what it is to be truly, wildly human. This retreat is a curated balance of inside and outside activities, making and doing, meditating and moving, connecting and growing. Each step is designed to build on the one before, and we are here support you on your rewilding/5rhythms journey, no matter how experienced you may be. The food is incredible, the location is gorgeous, and we're just waiting for you.
If all of this sounds like your cup of bush tea, and you'd love to come and be part of this exquisite journey, we can't wait to meet you. Get in touch with any questions, or head to the application form, to snag your place.
My name is Gina Chick.
I've spent a lot of time in the wilderness, most notably 67 days completely solo for the inaugural season of SBS and iTV's Alone Australia. I was the last one standing in the competition, and the second woman ever to win an Alone challenge. I love nothing better than helping people to reconnect with themselves, eachother and our beautiful country.
I've also written a memoir, We Are The Stars, which was nominated and shortlisted for a bunch of awards, and won the Matt Richell Award for New Writer of the Year, 2025. I've been on a whirlwind book tour for the last year, which took all my time and attention. I'm just poking my nose above the hedge after all of that craziness, to dive back in to teaching again.
I'm a registered 5Rhythms dance meditation teacher, and a facilitator of rewilding workshops and retreats in Australia and internationally.
I am committed to providing a clear, boundaried space, for people to do their work, to take their next step, whatever it is. Rewilding and 5Rhythms® bring the most powerful modalities for transformation I have encountered. I am super thrilled to be offering this workshop to give people tools of resilience, right when we need them most.
This retreat is on lutruwita, on palawa country. We acknowledge that we will be dancing on stolen ground, and that we are here by the grace of the original and perpetual custodians of this Country. We give our gratitude and respect to any and all first nations people.
Please get in touch if you have any questions, fill out the rego/enquiry form or email [email protected]
